House Tour Part 1

I have been in Texas for 4 months now.  Some days it seems like we just got here,and other days it seems like we have been here forever.  

I figured I would show you around a bit.  Things are still a work in progress.  It is very strange going from owning to renting, so I am still on the fence about how much decorating I am willing to do.  We signed a two year lease,but have no idea where God will lead us when our lease is up.

This is the upstairs "game room"  we don't really use it as a game room, more like a second family room.  A week ago it only had a single chair in it, and the TV and stand.  When we moved from Illinois, we got rid of everything but the necessities.  We didn't have enough furniture to furnish this room....then last week our neighbor was having a garage sale, and these sofas were in the sale.  We ended up with a sofa, loveseat,couples chair and ottoman,two end tables and a coffee table for $200!!!




How do you pass that up?
Typically I shy away from floral patterns, but this one is so muted and subtle that it is growing on me!


I ended up using the tables in the formal living room, which I will show in the next post.  The marble topped end tables were my Grandmothers and used to be in the living room.  They go better up here for sure!  


The vintage lamps were a gift from a Dear friend ages ago.  They are etched glass and silver toned.  I just replaced the shades a while back to clean them up a bit.  They had been in my Daughters room, but were too large.  So, now they have a new home also.

This mirror used to hang in my Dining room back home.  The sconces are from my days of selling Party Lite.  Guess it's a good thing I held on to some of our stuff.  I think they look great hear.

I LOVE these lamps.  I don't think I will EVER get rid of them.  They are probably about 60 yrs old if not older and really heavy!  The frame was found at the Salvation Army before we moved.

The pictures hung in my Parents bedroom back home.  My Dad doesn't like them, but my Mother and I still do.  I thought they looked lovely in here as well.  HA!  We still get to admire them, and they are no longer in his room.  :)

I will definitely be adding window treatments to this window.  probably an ivory valance of some sort. What do you think?

I like how soft and relaxing this room is.  I can't believe how fast and easy it came together either! 

After 16 yrs of marriage, I finally have a girly room!!  I usually stick to masculine and tailored.  Unlike most Husband, mine has strong opinions on decorating and doesn't like anything girly or frilly.  I keep reminding him that " I " am a GIRL!  LOL

One last picture.  My neighbor didn't want this desk anymore, so I bought it from her for $25!!  

Isn't it Gorgeous?!  I am envisioning one of those lovely framed cork board Balard Design knock offs, made by yours truly!  And of course a tall candlestick type lamp with a ribbon bow of course :)

SPRING!!!

Today it was 60 degrees AND the sun was shining on and off all day!!!

I am so ready for spring......this winter has been really miserable.  My body doesn't do well in the cold AT ALL!

I had my hubby pull out my spring decorations from the garage yesterday so I decided to change things up!

I am joining Marty for Table Top Tuesday!!

But first I thought I would share a MAJOR praise.  This is where I found my Dad today.  He is a painter by trade...(handy to have around for sure) but after chemo and maintenance doses of prednisone,My Father had cataracts form that were so thick, that he has been legally blind for almost a year!  Needless to say, he hasn't been able to do much for quite some time.

We were recently given the go ahead by his Doctor to have the surgery and now both eyes are seeing 20/20 again! He has also been cancer free for over a year now!

He is cutting a paint swatch to match the color of the wall,so he can touch it up. There used to be a baby  gate at the top of the stairs to keep the Grandkids from tumbling down them.  The youngest is now 6, so the gate was taken down, and holes were patched. It's ready to be sanded and painted!!!  It is SOOO good to see him up and doing some of the things he previously enjoyed!  I Love him so much!!

Okay!!!  Enough with the mushy stuff and on to the table tops!

I used things that I already had.  The cross was re-purposed from my St. Patrick's day display.

I need to look for some lighter colored or neutral books for under the lamp.  The eggs are glittery!  You know me....I can't resist something if it's sparkly!

This is the top after.  Recognize the little green birds, from my Hobby Lobby trip?  I just love them!!

I like the nest and books better closer together.  Both the nest and the candle stick were from the Goodwill.  Books were off the bookcase. 

I had to throw these in here because it's going on Marty's  party page.  Marty is always cleaning her silver "finds" with Tarn-x and transforming otherwise yucky pieces into something wonderful.  So here are the Goodwill candle sticks I found months ago "before" on the right and "after" on the Left!!!  Aren't they gorgeous??? 

Thanks Marty, for always showing us your lovely silver finds.  This is my FIRST time using tarn-x! 

Here is a picture of the buffet before.  It looks DARK for fall.

Now MUCH lighter for Spring.  I need some flowers or something green....but it's a start!

My weekend Thrifty finds.

  Believe it or not, this weekend I actually got my Husband to agree to go thrifting with me!  You truly don't know how awesome that really is..........  He doesn't do stuff like that, it bores him to death.  Can you even believe that???  Who wouldn't want to go Thrift store shopping??!!

  Anyway......I tell you that man is my lucky charm.  I found all kinds of things on my wish list, for fractions of what I would normally pay for them.

You have to see it to believe it!

Seriously!  Tell me that doesn't look like I just went shopping at Homegoods?!  I got all this stuff at the one Thrift store.

I have been wanting to go toward a French/Tuscan feel in the kitchen.  Notice you never see pictures of that room?  There is a reason for this, I assure you!  I found a few Rooster plates that I love at the Salvation Army that were from TJ max.  NWT!!  Now I found this AWESOME red rooster!!!  I just saw him at Hobby Lobby too!

Isn't he a happy little fellow!?  I can't begin to tell you how much I dig him!

Here he is with the original price tag still on him, and I paid $14.41 this is all from the Community Thrift Store in Dundee!  I feel like he was meant for me....just sitting on that shelf waiting for me to take him home.  This is the most I have ever paid for something at a Thrift Shop, but I don't feel bad in the slightest! 

I paid $4.14 for the cook book stand!  I have been looking at these for years, and couldn't justify paying full price for something I felt I wouldn't use for anything other than display!  Now that I have actually placed a book in it, I am  re-thinking that.  It is quite handy.

I have been reading about layering in home decor, and noticing how much greenery helps to fill in and make things feel warm.  These topiaries are just what I needed!  I also got the other plant and it is sitting on the game table!  Looks great there, I will post pictures soon of the living room.

It was from FTD floral!  I love the colors and can't wait to put my own floral arrangement in it!

Isn't this basket awesome?  It was NWT from Marshall's.  I paid $1.65  originally $16.99 I am thinking it will go in the Laundry room to help corral all of the cleaning products.  If not, I am sure I can figure out something to do with it.  Maybe it needs a basket liner?  What do you think?  What would you use it for?

I am a sucker for Mercury Glass........I just like things that sparkle.  I will put this away for Christmas.

With Jelly Beans, I think he will be the cutest thing ever!

Remember my Hobby Lobby birds?  Well I found them a nest at the Good Will! 

And this reminded me of my Birds!  I HAD to have it for the Spring table vignette!

Aren't they perfect together?!  I can't wait to replace My St. Patty's Day display with these little guys!

Awww....so sweet I can hardly stand it.

 So, now you can see why I think my Hubby is a lucky charm!  I NEVER get this lucky at the thrift store!  I think from now on, he has to come EVERY time I go.  Plus, I don't have to load up the car afterward!  That is a BIG bonus! :D
